HELP iTunes & Word 2004 don't mix well

Hi everyone. I came to macosx.com in hopes of finding out why my mac doesn't get along with itself when I am running Word 2004 Student & Teacher Ed. and iTunes.

This is my first Mac, second Mac computer. One week after purchasing my Macbook it decided to just die on me so after going through the ranks I was able to get a replacement- with my original RAM and HDD. So I really don't want this one to get all unhappy on me as well...

So my Mac's problem:

I was typing up a plain .doc in Word last night (it was at about 800 words at the time) and decided to open up iTunes. I ended up spending more time than I wanted to (of course) looking at and fiddling with (importing) the songs that I had in iTunes. Eventully the whole thing just froze on me because it had so many songs to import (i guess), so I let it stay like that for awhile. A few minutes later with no progress by the lollipop I manually restarted it.

So when I got it up and running again I opened up Word to fetch my document and it was all garbled gunk. I was able to find the backup copy made (via Auto-Save) and the same was the case. No matter what I tried to open it as (even the 'recover any* text from this file' fcn) I was not able to get my document back.

O.K., so that was the first time; I didn't know that it couldn't have been from just restarting the Mac but....

Today as I was typing in Word I decided to open up iTunes and listen to music. I was looking at iTunes for no longer than 2 or 3 minutes and by the time I got back to the Word document screen half of my text was gone and replaced with garbled gunk! I didn't type or say anything during that time and I was not connected to the internet.

Any suggestions???
Thanks very much!
