I've recently upgraded from 10.1.3 (never any problems)
to 10.2.2 on G4 400, 640MB Ram

For the most part it works fine, but when I first log in after a restart (doesn't matter which user account) the hard drive just whirls for ever, i mean like a minute or more.

The first time after the upgrade i figured it was just updating various settings, but its always the same. Once i've logged in once i can log out and log back in again and it takes a few seconds.

surely this is not normal, 10.1 never did this

A minute or more for a reboot???

Sounds about right for 10.2.2.

Might be doing a quick fsck on startup.

I noticed that 10.2.2 and all Jaguar distros I have worked with seem to take much longer than 10.1 to boot up. Especially on a reboot.

You will probably find this to be a normal occurrence. (At least it's booting up ;))

Best.

It's not a minute to reboot, well it might be, but is reboots to the log in screen in a fairly normal time frame (more or less the same as it did under 10.1)

it's once i log in that get (i timed it) a whole 2 minutes of insane hard drive whirling.

fraid i don't understand 'quick fsck on start up'

qu' est que c'est?

Check your "login items" under system preferences...

How many and what items are listed??

You have stumped me then.

I only see a delay on login because I have some startup items.

When I turn these items off, no delay. Since your problem seems to be non-repeatable here, you may wish to re-install.

Good Luck.
