Help Me Out... Slowness...

Okay...

My father-in-law just bought a new iMac 17inch flat-screen. Being 100% new to Mac and a "former" windows user, he complained that the scroll speed of Internet Explorer for a web page was slow and jerky. I tested it out and thought well, try Netscape so we downloaded that and it worked better. I told him that there are still some issues with scrolling and should be fixed with additional releases.

However, his system did seem slow. Its running with 1gig of RAM and 10.2.

So, I come home and test out scrolling of this website on my old 1999 G4/500 system with Rage 128 cards and its fast and smooth, no jerky movements.

Whats up with that? Any help, advice, insight would help.

It's Jaguar 10.2. I noticed something was funky with the scrolling the minute I upgraded to it.

The only way I've found to illiminate it to a degree is to set the "Scrolling Speed" to "Very Slow" in System Preferences.

This seems to work well on mice with scroll wheels but not so much when manually scrolling using the mouse pointer.

Good luck.

I'm on a Powerbook G4 800mhz, and formally used a G4 667mhz powerbook. I use a Memorex wireless mouse with a scroll wheel, and scrolling is fine for me, as it was on my 667mhz powerbook. I have my speed on relativly high. Using 10.2, 512mb ram. I'm not sure what the problem is related too, as my friend has an iMac 800mhz 17" with 384mb ram and his scroll speed seems ok to me too.
