help me with dvd player in osx

i have problem today i want to watch a dvd and the icon of the dvd don't appear in the finder and i insert a disc of music and don't appear to. then i boot to mac os 9 and i put the dvd and i can watch it without a problem. can someone tell me why in mac os x don't appear the icon?

still doesn't it appear when mac os x you reboot? disk utility run repair permissions maybe fix it to.

Just curious... insert a CD... go to the desktop. Create a new finder window (press APPLE-n or select "New Finder Window" from the File menu). Click on "computer" on the window's toolbar. Does the disc show up there?

Check Finder preferences and make sure you've set it to show mounted drives on the desktop.

Then, in System Preferences, check the settings for CDs and DVDs.
