g'day,
I ve got an emac with osx the problem is as the desktop comes up thousands upon thousands of jpg come up from a final cut pro project and it locks up i can't stop it and when it gets up to about 18000 picts the whole system freezes. I was wondering how do you start all over re-set all the os x software is there a re set button to clear everything and then re load it all again.

thanks trizza77@hotmail.com

You need the original install/restore disks or a retail OS X install to completely start over.
However, it may be possible to fix the problem. Are these photos opening up, or lying on the desktop? You could try booting in safe mode, or use firewire target disk mode to attempt to fix the problem.

g'day,
again but how do i do that do i put the cd's in while the mac is booting up or in the desktop it's impossible to do anything while thousands of photos are counting up. the little swirly icon is always on and nothing can be opend while it's happening it's going completely mental.

thanks trizza77@hotmail.com

You should be able to log into the console by holding down Cmd-"s" at boot time. (UN*X, yes, that can be scary...). You probably have about 18'000 items on the Desktop, which is a bit much for the Finder to handle, because actually, every icon on the desktop is handled like a _window_ by the system. What you need to do after logging in is the following (enter the stuff after the ">" and hit return at the end of each line...):

Code:
> cd Desktop
> mkdir 18000pix
> mv *.jpg 18000pix/

That's all. Now all the files on the Desktop with names ending in ".jpg" have been moved into a new folder called "18000pix" on your Desktop. You can now type "reboot" without the quotes and hit return.
