Help my displays has gone bananas

Hello,

Fired up my mac mini for the first time in a month or so. It installed the latest updates.

After the updates were installed I was prompted to reboot. Did that and everythng came up fine. After working for a while the display went nuts.

Looks like its only running less then 256 colors. Navigated to the display icon in system preferences and everything looks ok.

Tested the Acer LCD on another system and things appear to be OK.

Attempted to run the hardware test from the boot CD. I have a bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse so I couldn't get any input.

Managed to put a USB keyboard on the sytsem. Was able to hold down the "options" key and get the hardware test menu screen, but didn't have a USB mouse so I was still stuck.

I would guess the best thing to do is run the hardware test when I get a USB mouse. In the mean time is there anything else I can do to resolve ?

Reset the systems?
Remove the old display type and have it auto reconfigure ?

Any input would be appreciated.

OK I have determined the user account is corrupt. After creating another account display is good.

How do I go about fixing this other account ?
