Hi there,

I have a 80GB Toshiba External Hard Drive. In my Windows PC,
i can read it normally. However, i plugged it into my PowerBook
and nothing appears at all. I tink it doesn't even detect the hard
drive. I went into Disk Utility and my external hard disk was not
there.

I tried formatting in NTFS and FAT32. But both could not be detected.
I even tried deleting all the partitions and left it unpartitioned. But
still can't detect.

Kindly tell me what should i do..

Many Thanks,
Mark

I'm using USB. Mac OS X 10.3.9. It doesn;t even recognise it in
system profiler.. However, in my girlfriend's iBook, it can be
recognised.. why is this happening ? please help.. thanks..

Possibly the 10.3.9 upgrade, I have had issues with an external drive on a Mac since I upgraded. Try repairing the permissions on the Mac and see if that cures it, it got mine working again.

Pardon my ignorance.. How do i repair the permissions ?

Go Disk Utility > Select your internal drive (or your volume) > Click First Aid > Select Repair Permissions. Don't worry what your screen says unless it says something could not be repaired.

Is your drive a firewire? If so, you may need to update its firmware. And, if it is a firewire, then post back for more suggestions.

Nope, its a USB. ok.. i tried doing the repair permissions on my internal hard drive. but when i connect my external hard drive, it still does not detect it.. :(

regards,
mark..

You could check with Apple System Profiler and see if it shows anything connected to the USB bus, if not try and connect another USB device and see if that shows up. That will show if it is a problem with the external drive or USB in general.

Sorry can't be more helpful.

theres nothing wrong with the usb hub cuz i can connect my thumb drive with no problem. and i dun think there is something wrong with the external hard drive.. cuz my girlfriend's ibook can read it.. :(
