Yes this is the first time this has occurred..
I will tell you what happened... Here i go
Ok tonight i sent an im over aim to somebody and they said i sent a link which i didnt and i send another im to another person and they also said i sent a link which i didnt. So i dont know what this is, is it a trojan horse, a virus, or just a worm? I would think it would be a trojan horse. But i asked them what did the link say and they sent it back to me but it didnt register. And she told me that she sent it... Andi didnt think about it being a virus/trojan/worm untill she exited out of the window. Well i asked her what the link was and she said she didnt know. So it i told her if she gets the link again just send it back to me with out the .com so it wouldnt be a link. I am worried that i got one b/c this is the first time this has happened to me since i had my expensive imac. I am running a mac os x version 10.3.9. And i ran a virus scan for my apps with ClamXav so far there hasnt been a virus detected. Can someone PLEASE help me becuase when i tell my dad he is going to kill me if i dont fix it....

Thx alot, Robby

I would say no. If you have not downloaded the Worm that was on the net the other day that made it's self look as if it where Pics of the up comeing OS from Apple. then I would have say look and see if you may have put something in you signature fild of so just delete it. Now if this is just happening with PC users there is a AIM worm thats going around inside AIM thats hitting AIM user on 2000 and XP. I would say if CalmXav don't found anything then your cool. as for your friends will may they need to update there anit-virus. And see if it just them. I seen that before with AIM Worms on the windows side. Some of them the only way to tell of have this one type of worm to IM with someone thats useing a Mac or someother chat clint other then AIM. And then the links will start showing up when your friends type to you. I hope that puts you at rest.

Another thing I have noticed is that the official clients like MSN messenger sometimes send links within your IM sessions with someone else about downloading MSN messenger. I use Adium for my IM sessions and when I'm chatting with someone using the official MSN client I get those messages when I'm chatting with them.

Now, I don't know if this is the case with the latest AIM client, but it's possible. Of course, those people that I chat with who use the AIM client on Windows rarely ever update to the latest version of AIM, and thos savvy enough to do so are usually using Trillian or Gaim on the Windows side.

Your friends should be abe to describe to you what the message said. If it said anything about Leopard pictures ("Leopard" being the next major version of OS X which is 10.5, not the animal), then it's possible that you were infected with the Leap-A virus which was announced some time ago. Of course, if ClamXav didn't find anything, then it's probably not that.

Just for safety's sake, if you use Safari for your web browsing head into the preferences and disable the option to open "safe files." While very convenient (and it's always been like this on the Mac OS when downloading files from the web), it can be a major security risk.
