I recently tried upgrading to Leopard when half way through the installation I got an error saying it was having trouble reading my DVD. Unfortunatly without thinking abut backing up my documents first, I now have files on the drive that I can no longer access and are not available else where. If I try to boot the PowerBook it takes me to my desktop but all I see is the background and clock in the top right. I can not click or use anything. The bar isn't even grey, it's transparent. It's as if I have a broken copy of OS X. If I put in my old OS X DVD, can I upgrade on a restart without loosing my Documents or will it over write it? If it will overwrite it, I have a G5 tower along with a hard drive kit that will plug into any standard IDE drive and convert to USB. Would this be an option and just take my HD out of the PowerBook and plug the drive into my USB port on the G5? What are my best options?
