The problem.... Ok i have a powerbook g4 (1.5 ghz) with the slot loading superdrive. A regular cd was inserted into the drive. and magically dissapeared. meaning that the computer no longer recongnised it. I tried everything to get it working including the open firmware, trackpad button, the eject button, reseting the pram. Pretty much everything. So my dad (which i told him that buying a mac was the best thing possible, but i was wrong.) some how fixed it, but now does not remember how. IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I was thinking it was a hardware problem, but it was fixed once so it should be able to be fixed again. Under the system profiler it says no burning device was found. Is there a way to reinstall the 'driver' for the superdrive. From what i see the computer has no idea it has a cd rom drive of any sort. The computer has been useless for 3 months now. So i hope you can help me. Thank you.

passive-agressive anti-mac sentiments aside -- sounds like your drive is a dud, or has failed. Seeing as it's a G4 and you've had it 3 months, I presume it is a second-hand powerbook? second hand laptops are always a bit of a gamble. Perhaps someone will have some suggestions, but it sounds like you should take it in to get looked at.

No we had bought the laptop brand new. the cd has been stuck in the drive for three months. and out of the middle no where it stopped working... cd drives shouldn't just stop working for no reason... and it seems like a lot of people have been having similar problems... I just think it's weird that apple hasn't found a fix for it. So i will appreciate any help. anything that you think might work...
thanks
