Help Viewer

Despite re-installing OS X, and going through the lithany of System updates, Help Viewer continues to crash and burn moments after leaving the launch pad.

Any ideas?

can t imagine why a fresh install wouldn t work flawlessly. have you tried trashing the preferences?

Trashing the Help Viewer preference was the first thing I tried to do after the re-install. Only, I've not been able to find it in Any of the Preference folders.

this is an irksome problem. there really should be no reason that a fresh system would do this. maybe there is a error in your install disk? it is keeping that app from installing correctly? i really can t imagine why else it wouldn t work.

maybe console.app will have some error message? or maybe some other error log file? it doesn t seem likely, but perhaps /var/log/system.log?

one more thing, did help viewer fail when you had just installed from the CD, but before you had installed the updaters to 10.1.4?

If I remember correctly, the problem started about the time I updated to 10.1.4. I've been current with the updates. Help Viewer crashing was happening for a few weeks before I took on the re-install.
Is there a preference file somewhere. I was having similar problems with sherlock, and trashing it's preferences seemed to work.

i find these:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
~/Library/Preferences/Apple Help Prefs

try deleting one or both of those, if you have them
