Help with Broadband

Looking for progress
I am in the process of looking into getting cable access. R there any modem requirements that I should be aware of. I have a Jan 2001 QS G4. Any help would be good.

I can get a RCA model DCM215 for pretty cheap. Will this work for me. I am kinda new to Macs, so how everything goes together is a bit foreign.

Thanks for the help

Eddie

Sure it does....for $10 a month rent. I can get used modems online for between 10-35 bucks and be done with it.

Just wondering if there is anything special with OSX that would require a special modem, or am I looking at a simple setup.

TIA,
Eddie

Just make sure the one you get is DOCSIS 1.0, and hopefully 1.1 capable (can be upgraded to 1.1). The Motorola SB4100/4200 and a Toshiba model(?) are the most common in my neck of the woods, per a tech from my provider. The Motorola units have an internal access URL you can use with your browser for help in diagnosis of connection problems, should they occur. Other brands have this feature too. I would not buy a 3com unit, as that co. is out of the broadband business now. You risk getting into a no support situation with those units.
