Help with connecting to a specfic wireless network

I am trying to connect my powerbook to the on-site wireless network. This network does not transmit the SSID. I have been told I need to enter the SSID and the WEP key in order to connect. Where I work Macs are considered lame so therefore I am getting no help, just " what do you expect it is a Mac" from the network people.

I have tried putting in the SSID they gave me in the network dialog box under Airport/Join a specfic network. I put the Wep key in for the password. That did not work. Any ideas

Is the wep key in hex or a password? If it is in hex you need to stick a $ in front of it so enter something like

$deadbeef00

I guess adding '0x' in front of a key in hexadecimal also works. At my university all WEP keys that the admins announce begin with '0x', and they work with my iBook.
