Help with .DMG copying and permissions

I need some help.

I'll try and be as clear as I can.

I had 2 partitions. One with X, and one with 9.2
I was installing a new 80gb drive, and needed to backup the OS partitions, because I was removing the drive they were on.

I used Disk copy in 10.1.2 and successfully made an image of the drive with 2 partitions.

installed new 80- GB drive sucsessfully.

temporally installed OS 10 in order to mount the 2 (old) OS partitions from the .dmg.

Mounted the image just fine.

went to copy the files from old X.1.2 partition to the new partition by dragging and dropping, but I didn't have enought permissions.

I can't do it in 9.1 because the file os to large.

I tried to %sudo cd -r --blah blah blah-- but that didn't copy the invisible files or something...( it took 3 hours, and hung up somewhere)

Is there a way that I can copy that partition back onto the new partition and keep everything the way that it used to be? I don't want to reinstall everything.

(I've attached a pitcure for the visually able)

Frozengoat = Where the 4.6gb .dmg file is that when mounted, gives you the 2 disks seen in the picture
Macintosh HD = where I will put 9.2 if this all works (currently has temp 9.1)
os X.1 = where I will put X.1.2 if all this works ('')
Appz = nothing right now

any ideas?

I don't know unix that well, but I think I'll have to use it to bypass the permissions. am I right?
