I have been using osx for about 2-3 years now and I am just starting to wonder how to creat webpages. I started making a simple webpage in script and then when it can time to upload it I didn't have a server to put it on so I couldn't give it a url. i know that there is a inbuilt server in osx but you cant give it your own website address that I know of, its just
(http://youripaddress/~yourusername/) and i don't really want that as my url so could someone plz help me on this.

I'm not quite clear on what you're trying to do, but you might try getting a permanent domain name from www.dyndns.org. It's free, it tracks a changing IP address.

First question is do you have a fast enough connection to the net to host a page? The speed you need will depend on what you're going to host, but I wouldn't use anything less than 256K up for a very simple site. Just alot of factors you need to consider there.

Dyndns.org can help you with the IP/addy issue...but it might just be easier to find a virtual host for you page. You can find good quality hosting for $5 to $10 a month all over the place.

Dyndns charges for some services, like forwarding your 1st level domain in. That's their "Custom DNS Service" (http://www.dyndns.org/services/custom/) which is $25/year.

They also offer free services, which are their "Dynamic DNS Service" (http://www.dyndns.org/services/dyndns/) where you pick one of their domains for free if you have a dynamic IP address. If you have a static IP address, then you use their "Static DNS Service" (http://www.dyndns.org/services/statdns/).

How do you connect to the net right now? Dial-up, DSL, Cable, etc. What's your speeds, both down and up? Static or Dynamic IPs?

I Need to know how to make it so that you Apache server that is on your osx when installed can understand .cgi formats. Can anyone tell me what I have to do, I went to the Apache site and looked it up but I didn't understand all of it. If anyone knows how can they tell me.
