help with numeric keypad

I got the latest version of os x and i'm running multiple users. The keyboard works great for me, but my parents clicked something while under their name and now the numeric keypad doesn't work right. (even if you turn on NumLock, the numbers still don't work) I'm sure it is just some pref they messed up.. but i don't know where to find it.. A little help would be appreciated.

one possibility is that they pressed the option key five times. this toggles numeric keyboard to act as mouse control. try pressing it another 5 times and see if it returns.

the pref controls for this are in system preferences/universal access/mouse
