Sorry this is my first post, hope i am in the right section!

I am trying to install orange broadband on to my mac(ox 10.4)

they have sent me speedtouch modem(their standard one) and i am assured that this would be compatible with macs.

when i insert the start up CD i can open up the first orange icon but then i can not open up the installer/driver for ox 10.4. where the icons are at the bottom of the screen it looks like it is trying to open something but cant.(my partner thinks that they may have inadvertantly deleted some software that is needed)

orange now say that they are sending me another copy of the driver to see if this helps. i downloaded the driver from
http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/330.asp but it still wouldnt work, the guy from tech support said this might have been because of the format-i downloaded it on to a PC then tried to use it in the mac.

does anyone have any ideas on how i can get round this and has anybody succesfully managed to install orange broadband on a mac?

would gratefully receive any help!

You could try downloading it using your Mac but I would STRONGLY recommend that you get a ADSL Gateway (Netgear do several good ones - you can find these almost anywhere, Amazon or PC World if you're desperate).

Are you using an Intel Mac? If so these are not supported.

The Speedtouch 330 drivers are extremely buggy with OS X (and I think with Windows as well). If you were to get a Netgear Router with a built-in ADSL modem (called a gateway) you would be able to share your internet connection between several computers by either a wired or wireless connection. The connection would also always be on meaning that you don't have to fiddle with the modem.

Hope this helps!

Or *any* router or modem with ethernet instead of USB will work.
USB modems need drivers, and those are usually just much, much more hassle than getting the ethernet version instead. Does Orange offer any ethernet equipped broardband devices instead?

General customer rating for Orange Broadband is not good.

If you have already signed up to them (I am assuming you are a resident in the UK), then you may be tied in with a twelve month contract. If it is not too late to cancel your contract, try Zen instead (but tell don't Orange I said so).

The advice above is highly recommended. For some reason, many poor performing UK ISPs promote USB connectors (some will only work with these). Most provide hopelessly inadequate Mac support.

I haven't been locked into a contract but they did hit me with a fair usage limitation. You only get 60GB a month allowance. I'm upgrading to the business option!
