Hide apps when switching ?

Is there a function somewhere in OS X, or is there an application, which hides applications when switching from one to another ?

I noticed great speed gain when hiding apps just before switching. I'm under OS X.1.5.

There was an OS9 application called Action GoMac that did this very well. Don't think it still exists for X.

Any ideas ?

You can hold down the option key while switching applications to hide the one you're switching from.

This works for option-clicking windows, as well as option-clicking in the dock, too.
