High Speed Wireless Internet in Hotels - What do I need?

I am going to be staying 11 days in Manhattan and need a hotel with a fast internet connection. I would prefer to bring my iBook and a LAN cable and plug it into a data port. Most hotels do not have this and give you a choice of dial-up or wireless. I do not want dial-up and I assume that the wireless connections they have in hotels is a high speed connection, correct? Or is it not much different than ISDN?

I am used to a 100mb optical fiber connection and hate to be without broadband for 11 whole days. I am spoiled :)

Can anyone tell me if high speed wireless is really high speed? What would I need to have in (on?) my computer to be able to work with wireless in a hotel? I am coming from Japan and do not have an ISP in the US. My Japanese provider does have roaming. Thanks.
 
Do you have AirPort Express? Works quite nicely when in a hotel. New York has plenty of hot spot wi-fi zones as well. You shouldn't have many problems getting connected in Manhattan.

You might somewhat of a slowdown but not that much. Unless you're going on business, there's so much to do in NYC, that you shouldn't waste time being online.
