By default, in Apple's X11, if you highlight text it goes to the X copy buffer and can be middle-click pasted into other X applications; but to transfer it to the system buffer you need to go up to the Edit menu and select "Copy". Is there any way for this automatically to be done (as was the case under XDarwin)? Some hidden option somewhere? It seems like everywhere I look there's a lot of discussion about how *pasting* works in Apple's X11---just like it does in every other X11---but nothing about copying, not even to say "we won't support this". Any ideas?

Thanks, but I'm well aware of how X uses selections to do copying and pasting. I was specifically wondering if there was some way to get Apple's X11 to play nicely with the system clipboard on this (speaking technically, to automatically put the primary selection into the Mac system clipboard).
