Hmm... Steve Jobs to keynote MW Tokyo

With Steve appearing as the keynote speaker at MacWorld Tokyo, I guess we can rule out that nothing new at all will appear.

:)

But what could Stevo show over there? My guess is software, as Apple publicly stated that there won't be any new hardware until MWNY in July.

A sneak peek at Mac OS X 10.2? Nah, I guess that'll be shown at WWDC first. Makes more sense.

Already an update for iPhoto? Why not, but that wouldn't produce any waves...

A big update for iPod's system? Why not, but if it doesn't really enhance the experience, this also won't be all that much...

Well, we'll know soon...

Macworld Tokyo is March 21 - 23, 2002.

I hope iPod gets an update so so much. There is a bug that is driving me isane! I describe it here

Rumors ( ) have it that Apple will be releasing new eduicational software.

I need to clarify something. Unless there was another article that I don't know about. What Apple has said is that they will not be updating any of the current hardware(CPUs) for "some months." This leaves the door open for new digital devices. and I'm pretty sure nothing was said about MWNY. "Some months" can be interpreted however you like, but they do say no updated CPUs at Macworld Tokyo.

Just a clarification. Here's a blurb:

"We're not planning to introduce any new CPUs at Macworld Tokyo, as a matter of fact, we're set for some months now," said Joswiak. "Having just updated all four product quadrants, it's really nonsensical to think we're about to update the quadrants again at Macworld Tokyo."

Here's the article.

See the iCamera thread, Steve will introduce the iCam or whatever it gets named! I have received confirmation from an aquaintance of mine who has inside connections at Apple.

Well, maybe they mean the CPU as in chips, so that we won't be seeing any faster chips in machines soon, but there might be other enhancements. Maybe they'll bump up the resolution on the TiBook or upgrade the GPU for the TiBook and/or iBook.

I really think there will be a iCam soon.

Maybe I am just wishing out loud! HAHA!

Are you sure kommakazi? Because I just ordered a pizza earlier, and the pizza delivery guy (Papa John's) said his girlfriend's father had a friend in California that ate lunch with a guy at Apple, who was quite confident that the iSnap wasn't going to come out until MWNY :p

Cheers,
Dak

MWT is ten days away. It is a national holiday here so there should be good attendance.

My speculation:
-General introduction:
5 min.

-iMac presentation. This is still very new. Not all models have been released yet. There will be a lot of time spent on this. Talking about features, talking about huge number of orders received, talking about how well it was received by reviewers, (not talking about slow shipments).
20 min.

-Progress with OS X. Specifics related to Japanese market. Outside shot at X 10.2.
20 min.

-Apps for OS X such as PhotoShop. Maybe some Japan specific apps or maybe new drivers for scanners and printers and cameras are available?
10 min.

-Updated iPod? 30% chance. Updated or not it will make an appearance. If sales have tapered off it might get a price drop. Probably too early for a feature boost.
10 min.

-Updated iBook? 20% chance. I understand they said no new cpus but the iBook is a little long in the tooth. It hasn't been changed since October. It needs to get faster and especially lighter. Loose a kilogram and integrate well with Japanese portable phones and it will sell much better.
15 min. (if changed)

-Presentation of current "new" powermacs.
10 min.

-Presentations of iDvd, iMovie, FCP, iDVD
15 min

-Presentation of iPhoto (new to Japan)
10 min.

Already up to 100min (not including iBook). Scheduled time is 90 minutes.

Where were you when Apple released a 14" iBook and reduced priced low and mid-models at MWSF in January?

ummm, far left side, about row 8. My point is that making the iBook bigger and heavier (not lighter) and not changing the processor speed wasn't much of an update. The price drop was nice, but the specifications haven't changed since last fall.

Actually, no, the iBook did not get bigger or heavier. Only the HIGH-END model did.

If you want the 12" model with a combo drive and a 600 MHz processor, you can get it for $1499 now instead of $1799. And if you prefer a larger screen, a combo drive and a longer battery life, you can get THAT for $1799. Plus, if you want just the basics – a 500 MHz processor and a CD-ROM drive – you can now get that for $1199.

I'd say that's a great update, and I KNOW for a fact that the iBook will not be updated at MW Tokyo. (I know I was wrong with Ed Spruiell last time, but this time I'm 100% positive of no iBook update). I'll bet you $5, and we can settle the debt at next MWSF, if you want. :p

I have no complaints about the price drop. I think it was wonderful. My point is that the inside board specs haven't changed since October so it would be nice time for an upgrade. Previously the iBook specifications were improved about five months after the introduction.

As I said, I don't have high expectations that an improved iBook will come this week, mostly wishful thinking.
