i have a power mac g4, and recently experienced a faulty hard drive. It was my master drive, the one my OS is installed to, and disc utility told me to replace it immediately. so i went and got a new hard drive. i've always had a second hard drive to keep all my saved data- i keep my itunes library on it, and all my personal stuff- just in case my hard drive crashes, so i have something to back everything up on.

when i replaced the master hard drive, i upgraded to os 10.5 and once the OS was loaded, i tried to plug in my other hard drive as a slave. Now the computer won't boot whenever it's plugged in. it goes to a gray screen.

what am i doing wrong here? is my other hard drive damaged for good?

Is the new drive correctly jumpered? If you use two hard drives on the same bus (ribbon cable), then one must be jumpered as "Master" and the other as "Slave." On some newer G4s, both must be jumpered as "Cable Select."

Which model of G4 do you have, specifically, and are the drives correctly jumpered?
