Here is the thing see....

I would like to use my Mac to split up my cable connection to my other systems here at home. How would I go about doing this? Anyone...?

buy a router, i like my linksys router/switch it has a built in pretty nice firewall with good options built in through a webclient, hook the cable modem up to your router, hook the router to the computers, you are basically done

This is good advice. I use the SMC barricade and it works great for me.
