Home Recording

I'm looking for versatile home recording software. On the PC I have been using Adobe Audition for a couple of years. It's great at dealing with loops and audio editing.

Basically, I'm looking for software that is a few "steps up" from Garage Band.

What is the recording software most commonly used on Macs?

Thanks very much for your help.

I've ben using Sound Studio for a couple of years now. It seems to work fine...

Sounds weird, but Apple's Soundtrack might fit the bill. It is definitely in the same vain as GarageBand, but has all sorts of options, including letting you able to set the number of beats in a clip, the speed, and whatnot, as well as apply all sorts of affects. Might want to test drive it at an Apple Store.

Cubase and ProTools LE are definitely steps up, from what I hear. Cubase is working great on my friend's G5 computer; just a few growing pains.

There's some great freeware on versiontracker.com. Try there first.
