Hooking my second CRT screen to my Mirrordrive mac

Ok so I just purchased the Apple DVI to ADC adapter so I can use two Apple 17" CRT screens on my Mirrordrive mac. But the second screen isn't coming on. the computer recognizes it and everything on the computer says that it's there but no video. Am I using the correct adapter? Do I need to install more memory? Do I have to get a bigger hammer????

I have the GeForce4 Mx installed stock in it.

Where do I go from there...

Thanks,
Ross

That adapter will not work with the ADC CRT displays. It does not pass the analog signal used by the CRT, and does not provide enough power for the CRT. The CRT can only connect directly to a video card that supports it.
Use it to connect an additional ADC-equipped Apple flat-panel display to a Power Mac computer with a DVI port, and you'll have the ultimate digital desktop.
So, only for flat-panel displays.
Maybe you can return for your money back, but I wouldn't know about that.

Ok well they said as long as I have the reciept I can return it.

Do I need to update the video card that I have with this specific mac? I have the 1Ghz single mirrordrive version.

Or is there just another adapter I need to purchase.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, there is no solution. Any DVI-ADC adapter will be self-powered, but there are no adapters that have sufficient power for the CRT ADC Apple display. The CRT is an analog display, and any adapter would want a digital display for the ADC connection, restricting you to a flat-panel model. You can't even add a second video card, because the power for the ADC connection is provided through the AGP slot, and a PCI video card won't have access to that.
Bottom line, the second display won't work, and there's no solution, other than finding an ADC flat-panel to use.
With the number of good, cheap LCD displays now - adding a second ADC display is not a good option.

Alright then so the CRT is out of the question. So looks like I will just ante up for a flat panel Apple display. Yes they are nice for the price. And I can upgrade to a 20 or 23" for reasonable! Looks like thats where Im going to invest the money!
