How can I send broadcast message to AppleTalk users?

Hi,

Is there anyway I can send a broadcast message out to all Macintosh (AppleTalk) users on a LAN using either a MacOS X or an AppleShare IP machine even if they don't connect to that machine?

If it can not be done through the OS or server admin tools, is there a utility available that alows you to broadcast a message to all AppleTalk users?

Any help will be greatly appriciated.
Thanks

I don't think this is possable unless they are connected to your computer. Once they are connected, in os9 you could control-click their username in the sharing control panel and send them a message.

I don't know how to do this under osx though. Using NetInfo Manager, you can specify a connect message though.

Under FreeBSD and Linux, the Netatalk package does provide a way to message *connected* users, but thats it.

There was once an application you could install under os9 to receive messages, but of course you would have to install that application on each computer, as well as on osx - which may or may not work.
