How do I get rid of the Deleted Messages folder?

The subject says it all. When I try command-delete I get: IMAP command select failed with status Mailbox does not exist.

Any ideas?

Not a perfect solution:

Edit your account in the Mail prefrences. You can either tell it to delete mail after one day, or when you quit mail. Or you can just bypass the deleted messages and send your junk mail to the system trash.
