How do I login?

Hello,

I have installed Leopard 10.5 server and have created users and everything. I can remotely access it to administrate it. This may be a stupid question, but how do I login as a user on the server? I tried to connect to server through the go menu. I couldn't. The IP would not work, although in other parts the ip is recognized. I'm sure it's some small thing so any help is appreciated.

You don't "log in as a user" on the server -- you log in when you need to log in for whatever service you need at the moment (unless you're authenticating OS X logins using Open/Active Directory and have successfully bound the client machines to the Open/Active Directory domain using "Directory Utility").

If you want to connect to a shared drive on the server, use the "Go" menu or manually specify the server's IP address prefixed with a network file sharing resource, like "smb://192.168.0.100" or "afp://192.168.0.100". If a share requires authentication, then you will be prompted to enter a username and password.

The same for FTP access.

If you're running Mail services on the server, then Mail.app on the client machine would need to be configured with the correct server credentials and paths, and the authentication would then take place in Mail.app.

Short answer: how you supply credentials to the server depends on what services you're "serving" on the server, as each will have their own method of authenticating.

If you could describe what you're trying to accomplish with the server in detail, we can better help you figure out what kind of authentication schemes you need. Do you want to run a file server? Web server? Mail server? FTP server? Active/Open Directory authentication?
