I downloaded the OSX version of DiskWarrior (v3) just in case I ever have any problems in the future.

I have installed the program but I'd like to have a boot-able copy on CD in case one day my startup disc won't start.

I tried to copy the DiskWarrior Mounted Disc Image to a blank CD but it only put an Alias on the CD.

I had to Copy the disc image and then burn THAT to the CD.

However, it put all the files on the CD in a regular folder. So, I can't startup from that new burned CD?

How do I make a CD that will startup DiskWarrior if I ever need to?

First you need to create a system disk (a cd that has the Mac OS on it), and then you just add your application to the cd, so that when the cd boots, you can double click it and launch it.

This is not as easy as it could be though.

A good place to start your research would be the Mac OS X install cd.

You downloaded DiskWarrior? You mean you pirated it? Last time I checked, DiskWarrior was a commercial program that wasn't free. I don't think the admins are gonna like the talk of pirated programs in here...

...but anyways, to answer a question about downloading supposedly-bootable programs in general and making bootable CDs of them and booting from them, the image that you downloaded must have been made correctly from the start, so it's possible that the image you have has been rendered permanently unbootable by error of the person who made the image. You should be able to use Disk Copy to simply burn the image to CD and boot from it. If that doesn't work, chances are the image file was made incorrectly for booting.

I have a full, purchased version of DiskWarrior for OS 9.

Alsoft's website DOES allow you to download purchased upgrades.

Their own instruction booklet tells you that if you purchased an electronic copy that you should make a CD version.

So, who's to say I pirated anything?

Anyway, thanks, I'll investigate using DiskCopy.

In order to burn a cd of a disc image, you need to burn the UNMOUNTED image.

If you have toast, drag the unmounted image to the window after selecting "Other" and "Disc Image".

In Disk Copy, click "Burn Image" then select your image in the resulting window, then click "Burn".

When you try to burn a mounted image, it becomes non-bootable.
