How do I repair the disk?

Hi,
I am trying to install Windows on my iMac using Boot Camp. It tells me it cannot do the partition because the disk needs repairing. However the Repair Disk button in Disk Utilities in inactive. I am told to start up from the installer CD and look for Disk Utilities there. I have inserted the CD but cannot see Disk Utilities. Am I supposed to restart and re-install Mac OS X? Wouldn't this erase my current contents?

Boot from the CD by restarting the computer and immediately holding down the 'c' key until the system boots from the CD.

Once asked to select a language for installation, locate "Disk Utility" in the "Utilities" menu in the menubar.

Open Disk Utility, highlight your hard drive, and click "Repair Disk."

You're not reinstalling OS X, you're simply booting from the Install CD/DVD in order to use Disk Utility. The reason for this is that you cannot repair a disk that you're currently booted from and expect any level of success -- so you need to boot from an alternate media (the install CD/DVD, for example, although another hard drive with OS X installed on it would suffice as well).
