Is it another name ? Anything different in the design ? Any new port ? We used G4 AGP in the past, should we use G4 FW800 ? Or G4 X-only ?

How do I know when I buy it that it's a new one ?

Will it be faster than the previous ones ? How much ?

yers, it can be confusing. There are so many G4 models.
The difference is
a) the color of the tower
there is a blue and white or all white which Apple calls Silver.
b) processor speed.
the newest one has a 1gHz or 1.25 dual gHz.
The one release prior has Dual 867 mHz

c) Ports: the newest one has three firewire ports (one is faster than the other two)

And the new one has an optional Bluetooth and optional higher Airport card slot.

The older G4 has only 2 firewire ports and no bluetooth

The new one is named FW 800, then going down the line:
P57 or P58 Mirrored Drive Doors
QuickSilver 2002 EDU Model
QuickSilver 2002

I hope this helps you.

Perhaps he was referring to the differences between last year's and this year's Mirror Drive Door models? I too would like to know how to tell the difference because the newer ones are supposed to be much quieter.

Basically, if I buy a new DP1.25, how do I know it's a new one ?

The new ones will have Jaguar installed. That is 10.2.3. Check this at the Apple Menu>About this Mac. Any thing lower installed means it was sitting in the warehouse. They do not upgrade machines already in the box.

Apple refers to them as PowerMac G4 (FW800).

You will be able to visually tell by the presence of the firewire 800 port on the back.
