Now that I have OS X running, how do I backup?

I have a DAT drive does anyone know how to mount it?
Do tape drivers exist for OS X?

What are other people doing to backup?

well, you shouldn't really be doing any work with a beta OS, so you shouldn't have much need to back up.

that said, if there's anything i want to have a safe copy of, i've either been moving it onto my OS9 volume or onto a zip disk - dvd-ram isnt working yet.

True the OS is beta and I am not doing critical work while using it.
The main reason that I find that I don't spend more time using OS X is precisely because I cannot back it up.
If I could make snapshots of the system before twiddling I would not be afraid to explore but as it is now if I wreak havoc I have to completely reinstall the system.
This takes more time than I am willing to spend.

When you backup to a zip, do you use simple file copy or an archiver like tar or dump?

Note that "re-installing" doesn't stuff up any of your files and preferences. The separation of OS, apps and files has some distinct benefits!
