How do you make programs?

Howdy
Ok so i may be in way over my head here, but i wanna make a simple program. Just to display christmas lights on my desktop. There are a few out there for OS X, but i haven't found any that are nice. My question is what program(s) do i use to make programs? Are there tutorials out there on how to get started? Is there stuff on the developers CD that came with X?

It's just something i've wondered for a while.

Hey, if you finish it before the season is out, feel free to share it with the rest of us... because, dangit, I must agree.... the current Holiday apps for Mac OS X are only so-so...
 
You can't "make" programs or evil Bill will hunt you down and lock you up in his estate in front of a Windows box with Visual Basic installed.

I doub't ill get around to it. I don't have time and i played with some stuff last night and so far i can edit menus. yea. Other than that i have no clue. Maybe some other developers will come out with some freeware programs with christmas lights.

Hey adambyte

I was able to edit Xmas Lights Cocoa to work for my needs. It's now is a decent program! Actually i just got rid of a few pieces and added new bulbs. I actually didn't edit the program.
