how enter internet parameters ?

Hello !
I wish enter net parameters without using the Assistant.
I believe I set correctly PPP connect : it connects !
I don‘t know how set the TCP IP .
In the window of the system preferences for TCP IP, I entered in the first field the IP address I have got from my provider.
It doesn’t work ! Internet explorer replies : unknown server !
Help me please !

Are you on a dial-up connection? if so you need to set the tcp/ip setting to no connection.

you have to enter the adress of your internet-provider. if you didnt enter it, you get connected, but you cant find any servers...
