It's fine to have a fast connection, but how much do you pay ?

I'd like to compare the price at equivalent speed, therefore I suggest we compare price for 100kbaud download.

Example: I pay $40/month for 250kbaud, this is (40/250)*100=$16/kbaud

I pay 45 euros (approx. $45) for 512/128.
Which makes it (45/512)*100≈ 8,8$ / kb.

Twice cheaper than chevy ! france / Switzerland may be close, the prices aren't the same… :)

Are we talking of bauds or kilobytes here ? Maybe they're the same, I know nothing of telecommunications.

I would py something like $55 for 512/128, this includes location of the modem.

a kbaud is a kilo bits per second, one byte is 8 bits (roughly, depending if it's before or after decoding).

The price per kb of bandwith varies wildly, depending on cable vs. dsl vs. whatever, and whether the pipe is shared (as it is with cable).

That said, I do pretty well (or, so I think).. I get 768k/768k on my DSL for about US$50/month. No usage caps, no server restrictions, and no home network restrictions. I actually like my phone company.. :)

So, by the formula, I'm paying US$6.51/k...

I get 3584Kbit/s down 800Kbit/s up ADSL at $45 Canadian per month. This is a special promotional offer for the first 2 months. After this, I pay about $70 Canadian / month. The 45/month equates to about $1.25Can / 100Kbits/s
$70/month+taxes = about $2.21/100Kbits/s.

I am allowed 20GB of data transfer per month on this connection.
