How Much Memory does Mac OS X take?

HI , i just bought a 60GB MacBook Recently and i was asking myself, does it really take that much memory to install Mac OS X?

When i go to get info of my macintosh it says, i have capacity of 55.gb and that i have left 39gb after only installing the progrma, nothing else!! and its shows like i have used over 15 giga of memore, is that really normal??? im worry....please can some one help me?.

12 to 15 GBs will be used in a normal install of OS X, with iLife, and a few other apps.

I suspect that you have OS X 10.5 ?
Upgrading to 10.6 would give back about 3 or 4GB of space, as 10.6 removes all the PPC code which is not needed or used by the intel processor in your MacBook.

That 60GB hard drive is not very large now, and probably 5 or 6 years old. You might consider purchasing a replacement with more capacity, so you won't need to worry about running out of space, and so you have a drive that may be more reliable, and faster.
