How To Clean Apple Pro Speakers

Hello,
I have a set of Apple Pro Speakers and the right speaker has some brown residue on the metal shiny center part and the grey surrounds. How should I clean this off? Some Googling told me to:

1. Use a fine paintbrush.
2. 99% alcohol and a cotton swab.
3. Swiffer duster?

I don't really know if 1 or 3 will work. I am concerned whether 2 will damage the speaker itself. Can you please advise me on how to clean these speakers?

Thanks,
Anson

The Apple Pro Speakers are pretty resilient, so I wouldn't be to worried about damaging them. I used to flick them when I got bored. Mainly I would use something that isn't corrosive or abrasive. I'm not sure how the alcohol would react with the speakers as alcohol can cause metal to corrode fast. Personally I would stick with a cotton q-tip and just water. Lightly rub the speakers with a q-tip till the residue comes off. If you see that the outer parts might be absorbing water, wait till they dry off then start again and repeat the process. You could also lightly dab a q-tip on it to get any excess water off of it. It seems fairly hard to hurt the speakers unless you poke through. Eventually mine just got brittle and started falling apart, so that was the demise of mine.
