How to disable and remove Apple TV?

I bought Apple TV in error (thinking I could use Airplay to transmit my entire desktop to my TV). After connecting to my network via Ethernet and checking it out, I unplugged it, removed the cables and packed it up. However, now iTunes still keeps looking for Airplay devices when I launch it. How can I return my system to its previous state?

My method would be to restore the cloned backup I had made just before installing and trying anything new.

Go to the iTunes Preferences (iTunes Menu) and select Advance. Click the Reset Warnings button.

Now select Devices and check to see if Apple TV is listed. If it is, you can delete it from the list.
