how to find new firmware for devices?

Whats the best way to make sure you have the newest firmware for your computer, cd-rw\dvd things like that.
I have a new pb 15 inch.
Can I find downloads JUST for my laptop?
 
There are no firmware updates for a G4 alu powerbook, AFAIK. But when available, Apple would make them available for download through your software update pref pane. Same goes for updates to your Apple-supplied software. These updates will be specific for your PowerBook. You can always go to the Apple web site, click on the support tab, and click on the section applicable to your powerbook. This will show current info about repair programs, manuals and other support info.
 
If you're looking for specific devices' firmware, you might be lucky in googling the device's model name/number along with 'mac'. However: Fiddling with firmware can be tricky. And can render your computer unusable. And I don't think that'd be repaired under warranty by Apple - unless it's _their_ firmware at fault...
