How to install OS X on firewire drive?

Can someone tell me how to install OS X onto my Lacie firewire drive? When I click on the Install OS X icon it says it cannot be installed onto this machine? How can I tell it to install it onto the other drive instead?

Have you partitioned and formatted the firewire drive?
If your mac is an "Intel" you'll need to use the "Guid" partition table to get it boot-able.
Once this is done the drive should mount and be available for installation.

I just reformatted it using Disk Utility and wrote zeros to it. Any idea why it's not saying I can install OS X onto it when i click on the INstall OS X icon?

EDIT: I just redid the partition to a GUID Partition Table, but it still won't let me install to the drive even after restarting the computer.

The MacOS X installation (restore) disc(s) for the '15" PowerBook (Aluminum)', install Jaguar (MacOS X 10.2.x).

How were you able to install Tiger onto the PowerBooks' internal (boot) hard disk drive?

Are you using a retail copy of Tiger (MacOS X 10.4.x) to install Tiger onto either the PowerBooks' boot drive, and / or the LaCie external hard disk drive?; or, are you attempting to use a Tiger installation restore disc from another PowerBook (or other Macintosh) model?

The machine I'm having problems with is a Mac Pro and the machine I'm trying to install OS X onto the Firewire drive is an Intel iMac. When I last replied I was using a retail Tiger disk that came out when Tiger was released. Then I tried using the Install disk that came with my Mac Pro but it isn't letting me select where to install OS X. It just says restart, then when I restart it tries to install it to the local drive.

Any ideas?

Formatting zeros isn't enough, this leaves you with a nice clean EMPTY disk, but you still need to PARTITION it and format it with a file system.
