i read several threads about the speakable items control appearing while watching dvds under os x 10.1.
i just upgraded to 10.1, and the same thing happened to me, too.
i then removed the speech startup from the startup items in the control panel. now i can watch dvds without that nasty sucker.
speech recognition still works though, and speakable items too. so i don't know what this speech startup is or wuz 4.
