How to make your website popular?

Easy - provide cutting-edge content that everybody wants/needs, have clean and intuitive design, and include user customisation so that everybody feels part of the communoty.

simple... ;o)

1) Provide something original -or-
2) provide something thats out there already with a twist
3) Make good content, eye-catching but not bandwidth taxing
4) Get your own .com
5) Put your site on yahoo/google/some search engine
6) add a link to your signature file in the forums you go to :p

Provide up to the minute mac news, or juicy rumors. (i.e. MOSR, Think Secret, and Mac Minute)

Mac Minute has only jumped on recently, but since it had the cleanest, fastest site, with continually updats, I chose it over other sites, as my first and most common visit. In the case of MOSR, they are right sometimes, but sometimes they also tell people what they want to hear. THey also seem to have a winning combonation. SpyMac is an example of a site that took the telling people what they want to hear a little too seriously, though they have improved recently. Even if you are not producing a mac related site, I'm sure you can draw similarities. This is just an echo of what was said above, w/ a few examples.

before you jump to conclusions... IT'S JUST A THOUGHT! NOW I DON'T MEAN SPAM OR NOTHING... Just subtly say "Check out my new Mac OS X website" instead of...

Well, you could arrange two snow iMacs next to one another so that they subliminally remind your readers of breasts. (I won't even comment about the new iMac and it's chrome neck).

In truth I find the SPAM advertising how to do this silly. Sure I have my own domain name, but I aint no buisness. This is just my personal Web site and I really don't want it to be visited by a bunch of strnagers.

That would be too much like a quite little party w/ friends being crashed and becoming a Raving House Party with flowing sex/drugs/rock-n-roll! And I think you can all imagine the mess to be cleaned up after something like that... and that is presuming you don't have any run-ins with the law while it is in full swing.

Don't get me wrong. Those kinds of parties are great... in someone elses domain.

Well you could have a centerfold of a differnt Mac each day. Take their covers off.

Lots of geeks would come running to see naked Macs. ;)

Yeah. You've got to look out for those folks from Washington DC with fetishes...

I mean it is nothing new, but they might have to kill you if you out them.

...besides, if I did have a fetish (which I don't), it would be for the buffed "tower of power" dual-G4's and not for a pair of puffy iMac's.;)
