hi,i dont know if this is the right section,is my first post here in the forum!

well someone giveme a "power macintosh g4 with os 9.2

and he said to delete and re-install all,so there is no trace of his info inside.

the pc starts fine, with no problems,

now,i have downloaded a copy of mac os 9.2.1 and when i turn on the pc i press
"c" and it looks like it boots and from there i have not a clue what to do next...

the screen when in boot is different than the one that i start normally ...so it look like i am in boot..and i see the desktop ,,but i dont know what to click or what to do next to install a fresh copy of the os.

so if anyone know what will be the steps to do it,please post here a guide or a link where i can go and follow.

thank you ,for your help!

If you want to install OS 9:
Boot to that installer disk.
Double-click on the hard drive (should be in the top right corner of the desktop)
then, double-click the Utilities folder, and then double-click Drive Setup, which will all you to "Initialize", or erase the hard drive.
Then, double-click the Mac OS Install icon.
And, follow the directions to reinstall OS 9.

Keep in mind that if you have one of the last G54 PowerMacs, known as Mirror-drive door models, then the OS 9.2.1 install may not work. That model is challenging to install OS 9, unless you have the exact installer that came with one of those - you might be lucky.

you mention that you "downloaded" a copy of 9.2.1, but you failed to mention if you burned this to a CD.
Pressing the "C" key at startup is how you boot from the CD-optical drive.
More info would be good.

He possible might have also downloaded only the update and not the actual installer as I believe you can't download it like you can OS 7 from Apple's website, unless of course it was pirated.

yes,i have downloaded from the net few copies, because i dont have one,and from all 3,4 copies that i have downloaded only one of them worked in booting by pressing "c" (burned as image)

and yes in the right corner i so the cd icon and i double clicked on it and then other window come up and i so "install mac os 9.2.1" in there so i double click on it and it start installing the os,to finish, but after it was done it restart and it look like it was the same stuff like before,so i guess the installation was not done "on fresh install or clean install!,,

maybe i need to go a different route to make sure it erase all data ,and do i clean fresh install...i still look how to proceed ...
thank you

Read my post #2 again, which tells you how to erase the hard drive first - if you really want to erase first.
Or, you can just choose the option to do a clean install (which is not the same as erasing the hard drive first)
The default OS 9 desktop will look like any other OS 9 Mac.
What difference were you expecting to see?

oh,,sorry, for some reason i have read your post, but when i opened the page here i so the third post and down,,sorry

"What difference were you expecting to see?" no difference ,the only think is to be like new ,i mean to show after install...
will try your tips again, and see what happens.

thank you friend.

The desktop on a completely fresh install of OS 9 will not be blank, but will have 5 or 6 folders/files visible, plus the hard drive, and the trash, of course.

Just curious - why would you need to use OS 9?
