There is no option to skip the repair, unless you're talking about OS 9 and earlier, then this is the wrong support path. What's going on? the added time normally is only 15 to 30 seconds at the most. OS X always attempts an FSCK after a forced reboot. Keeps the HD honest!

i can only imagine one possible reason for doing this - to repair an external drive with a real utility like diskwarrior once you're back up. if that's the case, simply unplug the external drive during your brief darkscreen time. then plug it back in once running and hope you can see it.

really, the idea of trying to get around repairing your disk after a hard reboot sounds extremely risky, dangerous and foolish. even if you're going to fix it with a more powerful utility, it's better to let disk utility get it in minimal operating condition before you do.

Well last time it happened it took 5 minutes to restart. This was after having some fun with a few new programs.

tobes - that's a good sign that your disk(s) got screwed up pretty bad. even more reason not to skip it. i can't stress enough how important regular disk maintenance is and doing proper repairs after crashes. unless you just enjoy watching your mac slow to a halt, crashing apps and then completely reinstalling your system. taking a little time along the way to keep your mac running smooth is so much easier than the alternatives.
