HOWTO - establish a Network between a OS X computer and a Windows XP PC ?

I got a G3 working with 10.2 and i would like to connect to my own pc, working with XP. I tried setting the usual parameter and it failed !

I succeed in having the networking with the help of the DAVE application but i can't afford to buy the soft !

Usual parameter?

Okay, adding a Mac to a Windows network is the same as adding a PC as far as the hardware, routers, cables and so on all goes. Once they can ping each other by IP address, you're home-and-hosed.

The next step is to turn on Windows networking in the Sharing preferences. By default, the Mac joins the HOME workgroup, but you can change this setting in the Directory Access program.

To mount Windows shares on your local network, just go to Go -> Connect to server in the finder menu and pick the windows machine you want to connect to.

So thats it. The Mac can share with the Windows PC and it can access the shares on the Windows PC. Printing takes a little more tweaking, but that's where you might need something like DAVE.
