HP Deskjet F380 and MacBook Pro 10.6

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me.
I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.2 and a HP Deskjet F380. The two of them don't want to seem to talk to one another.
I cannot print anything on the Deskjet from my Mac.
Physically the deskjet is connected via USB to the MacBook.
The MacBook sees it and it can be added into the available Printers queue in the System Preferences pain. However when i try and print anything, whether word or PDF, or anything else, the printer just spits out a blank document.
Here's what i've done so far...
1) I've tried removing and readding the printer.
2) Repaired disk permissions.
3) Downloaded and installed the driver from HP's website (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1128296&lang=en)

Installed an HP utility which has a test facility in it. Used that, and i can print a test page out. This test bypasses the Mac and goes directly to the printer. That works fine.

4) Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver
5) Rebooted the printer and the MacBook in different orders to try and see if that makes a difference. nothing !!!

I'm at a loss now, i just can't seem to understand why it shouldn't work.

Has anyone come across a similar problem and fixed it ?? Or does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
