HUGE firewire disappointment

well I don't know if this is Jaguar or not.... but... today my iPod stopped being stable.

After having it connected for an hour or so, i will just get the error message "the storage device you put away was not properly removed..."

... as if I had unplugged it without ejecting first. Then NOTHING will bring it back except for restarting.

This has happened like 5 times in a row now.

Also, I had a Western Digital 30 GB hard drive in a firewire enclosure and it was working fine. I sold it and got an IBM 40 GB hard drive for cheaper and NOTHING I do makes the mac recognize it.

I might just try getting a new hard drive but I have NO IDEA what's wrong with the iPod :-(

Is the drive in a bay already? or is it just and IDE drive that you are going to put in an IDE firewire bay?

Does it show up in the apple system profiler?

Which model iPod do you have? Does it give you the same problems on both Firewire ports? If not, its probably the firewire port itself [i say this because the firewire ports are on seperate busses i *think*]. If yes, then its either the iPod or the cable.

I am having similar problems, except that it says all the disks need to be repaired while they worked just fine in 10.1.x. The disk utility is crap. I would like $1 back since one of the 122 programs doesnt work. Also, my firewire cd burner cant even play music cds now and itunes freezes while opening.

Here's something i just remembered.... the other night i crashed jaguar [the mount ftp bug in the finder] and when i restarted, my computer hung at "waiting for disks" for like 5 minutes. It made me really scared as I thought I had fubard my hard disk. Then just for kicks, I decided to unplug my firewire cd-r. The minute I unplugged my cdrs firwire cable, it continuted to boot.

Maybe firewire support is buggy in 10.2? other than this one isolated incident, I haven't had any problems with my firewire devices [cdr, iPod and digital video camera]

It's an IDE drive in a firewire bay. This worked fine with the Western Digital IDE hard drive.

It does not show up in Apple System Profiler.

The iPod shows up in Apple System Profiler until it randomly ejects itself and gives the "you unplugged w/o ejecting" error, then it's gone, too. It's the original 5 GB iPod. My TiBook only has one Firewire port.

my camera isn't showing up or working at all in 10.2. It's a sony DCR-TRV140 using firewire. Any ideas why this suddenly won't work? Neither BTVX, iMovie, nor QT Broadcaster can get the input from my cam....it's all plugged in too.

aie!

I believe my firewire problem has to do with my iPod. Without the iPod, firewire works fine. Connecting the iPod screws up firewire within 10 minutes.

I bet the iPod needs repairs...
