I can no longer add Applications...

I can no longer add anything to my "Applications" folder when logged into the machine as myself. When I try to move a file/folder to the Applications folder, it gives me the following error:

"The item "UnRarX"could not be moved because "Applications" cannot be modified."

This problem just recently occurred (within the last month), but it's really anoying. If I log in as "root" I can do whatever I want, but I really don't want to have to log in as root every time I want to install a program.

What can I do about this?

Thanks,
Nicholas Feigen

High light the Application folder, then go to the File Menu to Get Info and change the permissions.

go to /applications/utilities and open disk utility, click on your HD in the left bar, and click the "repair file permissions" button

For the record the Applications folder should have the following ownership and permissions (as shown in the Get Info window):

Owner: system / Read & Write
Group: admin / Read & Write
Others: Read only

Mine says:

"Group: wheel"

I don't see the repair file permissions as a button in my Disk Utility. I'm running mac OSX 10.1.5, was this option available in my version of X?
