I've set up a website to promote my writing. I use iWeb to design it and Cyberduck to upload it. I'm not using .Mac for the server as I can't afford it. Plus I wanted my own domain name.
I'm finding it a rather frustrating experience.
First, iWeb websites seem to be extraordinarily large. I bought a 5 MB website and I believe I've already gone over my limit. It seems every time I make a change it adds about a meg or so to the site. Since none of my changes are big ones and mostly text, I can't quite understand this.
Second, I've given up trying to be subtle with Cyberduck. I just upload the whole website now. If I try to upload just the parts that I've changed they often don't go through. After my latest upload, a whole upload, some parts went through and some did not. I have no idea why unless it has something to do with my website being full.
So, my questions.
Is iWeb a memory hog? If so, what can I do about it. Are there other website building programs out there as easy to use as iWeb? I've got much better things to do with my time than debug code.
Are there better ftp programs than Cyberduck available? Ideally I'd like one that goes to the website, finds what's different from what's on my Mac and uploads only those parts that need uploading.
Is there anyway to make the blog on my website have comments and searching active? I might even be willing to do a little (very little) coding if I can make those work.
Thanks in advance.
