I don't even use X because of this help!?

I have an iMac and I bought a 19in NEC monitor and connected it to it and then in OS 9 I got a program called switch res which allows you to change to any resolution whether its supported or not so I can use 1280 x 1024 which is supported on the NEC and everything looks great, but I have OS X at 1024 x 768 on my 19in NEC(looks really bad) is there any program or hack that I can get to do the same thing i do in 9?

In the monitors control panel there is a checkbox which tells OS X to show you all available resolutions (not just the recommemended ones). Have you dont that ? (maybe it reveals the resolutions that you want)

When I connect an external monitor to my iMac, the most it will do is 1024x768 in X. You indeed need some kind of hack like SwitchRes to do it. I didn't know that SwitchRes would do that in 9 with an iMac, hmmmm.
What happens to the internal iMac monitor in OS9 when you do switchRes to a higher res to support your external monitor?

I guess what I should have asked, does the iMac go to 1200x1024 with SwitchRes on the internal iMac monitor too? Or does it stay at 1024x768? I would think it would have to switch resolution, as the ext. vga connector mirrors what displays on the internal.

I got SwitchRes and have 1200x1024 on the iMac in OS 9. I didn't know it would do that resolution and I have had it 16 months or so. Switched to X and only 1024x768, but I am sure it can be hacked.
I had not used the iMac 500 in X.1 much and it works quite well, I was surprised.:D
